Speech Language Pathologist

Job Overview

Responsible for determining differential diagnosis of Speech/Swallowing/Feeding disorders by conducting appropriate evaluations. Plans and administers therapeutic services to patients in addition to counseling patients and/or families (guardian) regarding patients disorder. Writes evaluation reports and maintains patient files. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory/legislative policies as apply to the profession of Speech Language Pathology and adheres to same.


Evaluates and diagnoses full spectrum of disorders within specific clinical area of Speech and Language services. Provides consultative services as necessary. Provides therapeutic interventions based on evaluation and findings for each individual patient. Meets individual productivity standard. Provides education and counseling to patients and/or families including: nature of disorder, prognosis, type of therapy to be performed, home programs. Completes paperwork according to departmental/regulatory standards, including: evaluation reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, charge entry, statistics. Assures financial viability of patient accounts based on payer requirements. Maintains current licensure requirements and updates clinical knowledge by attending continuing educational activities. Provides follow up in-services to staff. Provides lectures and in-services to community based and hospital based groups as requested/required. Provides referrals to other agencies, services, departments within or outside the scope of St. Joseph's Healthcare System and is a resource for patients/families as needed in this regard. Participates in departmental meetings or reads minutes as necessary to assure compliance with disseminated information. Participates in staff and program development. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned. Special Projects


Work requires a current NJ State License in Speech-Language Pathology, CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology) required, NJ Department of Education Certification as Speech-Language Specialist and CPR certified required. Valid driver’s license required and comply with Qualifications to Drive a System Vehicle as well as all policies as outlined in the SJHS Fleet Management & Safety Program for EIP employees only.
